Tip #1

If you wish to get the best value to money when renting a car online, then it is important to first ask yourself what you need the car for. As you can see in our price comparison some companies are more expensive than others, as these companies can charge premium rates because of the types of cars they have in their fleet.
Whether you are driving short or long distances or over US borders- our aim is to focus on providing you with the best possible rate. If you are looking to drive very short distances, then it may be a good alternative, if you wish to save a bit of money to go with a smaller or local supplier rather than the larger companies that we focus on. Generally these larger chains like Avis or Budget, are slightly more expensive than the local ones but are the best if you are driving long distances as their cars are newer and possibly safer. Because of this factor we focus on major suppliers.

Tip #2

It is extremely important before you drive off with the car to inspect both inside and out and document any prior damage, whether that be scratches, dints or problems with the interior, this should be done before you sign the contract. Usually a representative from the company will do this with you, so keep this in mind, if they don’t, then ask why.
It may also be beneficial before you leave to digitally photograph any of these defects in case the provider asks questions upon returning the vehicle. A useful tip is to hold a newspaper next to the damage and capture this in your photo so the date is easily identifiable and there is no doubt that the defects were there before you drove off. Also it is important to carefully check the tires for any damage as a new set could set you back a few hundred dollars. Most importantly don’t be afraid to speak up if something doesn’t seem right.

Tip #3
In some countries, petrol stations in rural areas may be few and far between, especially if you are travelling across deserts or wide open spaces. In case of emergency it is a good idea to safe guard yourself and carry a portable petrol container in the boot in case of an unlikely event. Ask the hire company before you leave if they are able to provide you with one, otherwise pick one up from a local gas station for a small cost.
Tip #4
Before you leave ensure that you have any emergency contact telephone numbers including the rental car company in case you need to call them for advice while on the road. It never hurts to be too prepared.
Tip #5
It is common that the car rental company ask you to present your credit card to compare it against the credit card that was used to book online so there is no need to worry. Remember to ask the car rental company to delete your credit card details after the car is returned.
Tip #6
It is extremely beneficial for you as a driver and car renter to find a rental car company or deal that offers you free miles. This means that you will have unlimited km’s and not have to pay for the miles that you drive as some companies require- this will be extremely beneficial if you are driving long distances.
Tip #7

Know the legal terms and conditions associated with insurance. You should make sure that the insurance on the car covers, third party liability, collision damage waiver/insurance and theft/loss waiver insurance. Make sure you ask the company what your excess is in case an unlikely event occurs. This is a must, so you really need to ask some questions, because at the end of the day it’s only money coming out of your pocket if you have an accident and forgot to find out the excess amount. Sometimes there is an option of taking out an excess reduction, which may not be a bad alternative if you are not confident driving in a different country.

Tip #8
Research. Take some time to find the drop off location on Google Maps and try to see where the closest petrol station is. Allow plenty of time to fill up the car with petrol because if you’re running late and you are unable to find a petrol station at the last minute then the rental company has to fill up the car. Usually they will charge a higher price per litre than the petrol station, so make some time and avoid any nasty surprises on your bill. Or they may charge you a late fee, if the car is not back by the time that has been specified.
Tip #9

Plan your journey and estimate how long it will take to deliver the car back to the drop off location if you are driving a long distance. If necessary, when booking the car online, add a few hours onto your journey to ensure you can deliver the car within your selected time frame, as if the car is delivered after your selected time then it maybe a costly experience.

Tip #10
Remember you are driving a rental car and probably in a foreign country that has different road rules than in your own, so pay attention and be careful. If you are caught speeding in a rental car then either the car company will bill you or they may handover your details to the local police to let them deal with it. Just keep in mind, if you leave the country without paying the fine then you may be refused entry the next time you visit. So it’s best not to disobey any road rules and regulations, and definitely not drink and drive, or you may find yourself in jail.
